OK Conference '08

CONTESTS RULE FOR THE NEW YEAR!

What's the buzz for 2010?  Contests.  The kinds that get you published, recognized for your work or take you to the next level  toward your writing goals.

What will it take? The usual tips of focus and commitment win the day here.  But there's something else too about writing contests.

You compete.  Like all races, you prepare, train, and then at the end, win with your heart.

Join us this year via the website and/or the Monday night meetings at Barnes & Noble to enter into the race of your life.

Be there.  Win.

Ancient Mysteries: A review by Brad Hindley

The book ANCIENT MYSTERIES, written by historian Peter James and archaeologist Nick Thorpe, makes a worthy attempt to decipher the puzzles left by civilizations and phenonmena of the past.

The words on the title cover begin: From the Statues on Easter Island to the Pyramids of Egypt...Ancient Astronauts to Lost Roman Armies...  These introductive phrases make for a good sell to the would-be reader.

The inquiries into these enigmas are performed insightfully and realistically (although there is an anti-religious bias).  The scepticism that is included is, I felt, quite healthy.    I would recommend this book to any reader with an interest in history and archeaology, as well as anyone who is willing to study about the title's namesake: Ancient Mysteries, with an eye to realism.

Flash Fiction and Poetry

I'm seeing November as poetry month for us.  We have the fifth Poetry Monday this month and three terrific award winning poet masters to do workshops.  So let's go for it.  Sharpen your pencils and write some poetry.  A line or two a day as you go your merry way :-).  Okay.  Now write your own.

Flash Fiction needs the words "thanks" or "thank you" in the 99 words or the title in honor of Thanksgiving!
