The book ANCIENT MYSTERIES, written by historian Peter James and archaeologist Nick Thorpe, makes a worthy attempt to decipher the puzzles left by civilizations and phenonmena of the past.

The words on the title cover begin: From the Statues on Easter Island to the Pyramids of Egypt...Ancient Astronauts to Lost Roman Armies...  These introductive phrases make for a good sell to the would-be reader.

The inquiries into these enigmas are performed insightfully and realistically (although there is an anti-religious bias).  The scepticism that is included is, I felt, quite healthy.

I would recommend this book to any reader with an interest in history and archeaology, as well as anyone who is willing to study about the title's namesake: Ancient Mysteries, with an eye to realism.
